A snowstorm paralyzed highway traffic in Illinois, United States. Extremely challenging road conditions made it impossible to drive safely, which led to numerous accidents involving more than 100 vehicles in total.

As the Illinois Department of Transportation reported, the 30-kilometer section of the highway where the collision occurred in both directions was closed for several hours. Emergency services participated in this work, helping to remove cars from the road. Drivers deprived of transportation were taken to centers where they could warm up.
