Host country representative Kaja Jovan has eliminated Croatian seed Petra Martic from the WTA 250 Championship in Portoroz. Kazachka Yulia Putintseva has her first match behind.

Petra Martic (WTA 42) failed in the professional courts for several weeks. The last time she won two matches in a row was in May when she reached the quarter-finals in Parma.
