The Portuguese Football Association has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

The news comes just days after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner played with Portugal against France in the Nations League and Spain in an international friendly match, which means that he has recently been in contact with a group of football’s biggest stars.

The star immediately left the national team after returning to his positive test and would miss Wednesday’s match against Sweden, as well as the upcoming club matches for Juventus.

There is also concern for his teammates after Ronaldo snapped a photo just hours before the news was announced, as the Juventus star smiled for a selfie at dinner.

The 35-year-old has been confirmed to be asymptomatic and is now in self-isolation while recovering.

She confirmed the news in a statement issued by the Portuguese Federation, stating: “ Cristiano Ronaldo has been dismissed from the national team after testing positive for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden.

The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation.

“After the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and they are available for Fernando Santos for training this afternoon, at Cidade de Futebol.”
