According to the government of Prime Minister Antonio Costa, tourists from Great Britain are the largest national group to visit Portugal on Monday. In total, more than 5,500 people will arrive in the evening on 17 flights.
In his statements to the media, the representative of the State Tourism Agency, Joao Fernandez, indicated that an increase in the number of tourists from both the British Isles and other parts of the world is expected in the coming days.
The exception is passengers from eight countries that Portugal’s medical services identify as trends threatening safety epidemics. These include: South Africa, Brazil, India, Cyprus, Croatia, Sweden, the Netherlands and Lithuania. People from these countries must undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Portugal.
On Sunday evening, the Portuguese government lifted the ban on air travel for tourists from most European countries. One of the restrictions that was kept for them was the need to have a PCR test in the last 72 hours before departure to Portugal.
Since Monday, cruise ships and other passenger ships have been allowed to run freely to the ports of mainland Portugal.
