Katarzyna Kawa (WTA 131) has a chance to enter the main ladder. In the first round of a two-stage qualifier, she defeated Kimberly Birrell 6:4, 6:1 (WTA 483). In the first set, the Australian tied 2:4 at 4:4. Since that moment, the Pole has won eight of their nine games in a row. Her opponent will be Croatian Jana Wit on Sunday.
Ursula Radwijska (WTA 324) also competed in the qualifiers. On Saturday, she lost her chance to advance to the main tournament. She lost 5:7, 1:6 with Astra Sharma (WTA 124). In the first group, the emotions were enormous. The Krakowian chased and with 0:3 came out in 5:4. In the tenth inning, I missed three set-pieces, and in the eleventh game I handed them over. Radwańska then had three chances to break the tie, but the 0-40 Australian scored five points in a row. In the second half, the pole advanced four times.
Joanna Konta will not defend the title in Nottingham. The British woman ended her career in December last year due to a long-term injury to her right knee.
