Police are still searching for the 51-year-old and are warning residents
Oberhausen After the shooting in front of a fast food restaurant in Oberhausen, injuring three, police are still searching for the 51-year-old suspect. Investigators also warned that he could still be armed.
The intense search for the shooter, who is said to have shot three people in front of a fast food restaurant in Oberhausen, continued on Monday. The research should extend to Europe as much as possible. The Homicide Commission has been publicly searching for a photograph of a 51-year-old man from Essen since Sunday. “We are still looking for the man,” a police spokeswoman said Monday. There have been no concrete indications of his possible whereabouts from witnesses. Police and prosecutors have warned not to address the suspect because he is still armed.
According to the investigators’ first findings, the dispute between two groups suddenly escalated on Saturday evening to the point where there was a physical argument and then a total of four shots were fired. Three people were injured. A 49-year-old man sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to the stomach. After an emergency operation, Duisburg’s public prosecutor Jill McCuller said there was no longer any significant risk to life.
In an interview this afternoon, McCuller said an apartment search did not locate the suspect and his family. It is assumed that “he is a fugitive with his family members and intends to emigrate abroad in the near future.” So far only a national arrest warrant has been issued on suspicion of attempted manslaughter, but the goal is to expand the search across Europe.
In addition to the 49-year-old man, a 47-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were injured by the shooting. The woman was shot in the leg by the man in the arm. According to the prosecutor’s office, all three of the injured are from Gelsenkirchen and are being treated in hospital. According to preliminary findings, the suspected shooter – a Turkish national – had fled in a car.
Investigators assume that the wounded are not accidental victims, but that a meeting was arranged – and that more people were involved from both sides. She said that there may be business relations between people. According to McCuller, it was about financial debt, among other things.
Recordings from CCTV should provide more insight into the crime’s path. Just two and a half hours after the shooting in the Ruhr district of Oberhausen, police officers temporarily arrested a 40-year-old man in Gelsenkirchen. He is said to have been present at this action but was not shot. He was in police custody. The investigation into the background of the crime and the alleged shooter continued.
