Emmy Awards are given in 119 categories. In the past decade, the battle for the most awards has been fought primarily between HBO and Netflix. This year, the latter turned out to be unmatched, winning as many as 44 awards, putting the streaming platform on par with the current record holder. ViacomCBS won the same number of Emmy Awards in one year only once, in 1974.
“The Crown” won the most awards in the Netflix portfolio, 21 figurines, that is, the history of the life and work of the British monarch. Also noteworthy was the success of “The Queen’s Gambit”, which received the award for Best Miniseries.
HBO had to settle for 19 awards (mostly for “Mare of Easttown” and “Hacks”), giving them a high but bitter runner-up. Disney won 13 awards, mostly for “WandaVision” and “The Mandalorian.” Apple was out of the podium, but its production “Ted Lasso” won Best Comedy Series, as well as six other awards, among them Best Comedy Actor.
Unlike last year, Emma’s party attended the audience. However, the current venue – Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles – has resigned and the entire event has been staged in a huge tent.
