Mercedes-Benz has revealed real-life driving shots of its Vision AVTR electric vehicle prototype based on the avatar.

The German carmaker unveiled this concept earlier this year and we didn’t even cover it on Electrek because it looked too crazy to be produced.

That still is the case, but Mercedes-Benz has now unveiled actual footage of the electric car driving the car and it’s so cool not to share it with you.

The idea behind the Vision AVTR is inspired by the Avatar movie and the idea of ”merging” with your vehicle – unlike the Na’vi, which fuses with the Flying Mountain bushes in the movie.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to connect yourself to the car like you would an evil avatar.

The electric vehicle is controlled by a spring sensor in the center console:

Obviously not something on the road today, but Mercedes-Benz is trying to envision the technologies of the future.

They wrote about the concept:

“Instead of the traditional steering wheel, the multifunctional control element in the center console allows humans and the machine to integrate. By placing the hand on the control unit, life comes back inside and the car identifies the driver through his heartbeat or breathing.”

For the powertrain, Mercedes-Benz says the vehicle is powered by “revolutionary battery technology based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry”:

For the first time, the VISION AVTR concept vehicle uses a revolutionary battery technology based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry that is completely clean of rare earth elements and minerals. Battery materials are compostable and thus completely recyclable. In this way, electrical mobility becomes independent of fossil resources. As a result, Mercedes-Benz confirms the great importance of a future circular economy in the raw materials sector. ”

This is likely just a conceptual concept, and the prototype electric powertrain is likely just a regular electrical test bed for prototypes.

But the wheels and steering are completely distinctive and manage to “walk with the crab” just like the exciting lately Putting crab in the GMC Hummer EV.

Check out our newly released video from Mercedes-Benz about the Vision AVTR concept to get some snapshots of the features in action – it’s worth 13 minutes of your time:

Take an electric

Much like seeing Tesla Cybertruck in action, the footage appears to be CGI, but it’s an actual prototype.

We’re unlikely to see these features turn into a production car anytime soon, or at any time in some cases, but it’s still a great project in my opinion.
