Later this year, we’ll see the debut of the new Intel Alder Lake processors. As we know, they will introduce us not only a 10nm technological process, but also a new architecture or an innovative hybrid architecture (splitting into small and large cores). As a result, there will also be dedicated motherboards with the new LGA1700 socket, which should also support the next generation of chips. It is true that the first leaks about the LGA1800 distracted us yesterday, but today there is a huge leak on the network about a confirmed socket for the upcoming chips. We can see the LGA1700 socket in the first pictures, as well as see its schematics and detailed information.
We can already see the LGA1700 socket, as well as see detailed information about it. However, it will be a few months before we see motherboards ready with Intel Alder Lake chips.
Intel LGA-18XX – A new unannounced socket for Intel processors. LGA1700 only for Alder Lake and Raptor Lake?
You can see the actual LGA1700 socket in the image above. It was put up for sale on the Chinese Taobao website and was priced at just over $5 (after conversion). The offer includes a complete socket, including the mounting mechanism. Separate stands are often sold for repairs. An ordinary consumer is unlikely to find an application for it, unless he has experience servicing motherboards. It should be noted that this group is likely the actual source of the previous LGA-18XX leak.
What motherboard for AMD Ryzen and Intel Core processors? Recommended AMD AM4 and Intel LGA1200 motherboards and purchase guide
Igor Waluzek from Igor Lab has given us interesting things. The diagrams he recently published confirm the rectangular shape of the 12th generation Intel Core processor. Importantly, the diagrams below reveal a new cooling mounting hole pattern. So Intel will drop the current 75 x 75mm spacing and will switch to 78 x 78mm. So some coolers will be incompatible, especially since IHS on Alder Lake chips will be at a slightly lower level (a minimum of 6.5 mm, while current Intel processors “measure” at least 7.3 mm). Details about the new recommended cooling have also been leaked, which includes, inter alia, the minimum, recommended and maximum compressive strength. The table below also mentions the mentioned LGA-18XX socket.
Intel Z690, Intel B660, Intel H610, Intel Z790 and AMD AM5 – new details about the launch of new motherboards
Plus, we can even see the recommended ATX motherboard layout with areas to miss. All this so that compatible cooling does not interfere with some elements on the motherboard. There is also an isometric view of the socket itself, which shows the position of the screws in the socket. As we can see below, the socket will be divided into two zones, each of them L-shaped. Already in the first photo from above, we can see how it looks in practice. However, it will be a few months before we see LGA1700 motherboards in action, as well as the new Intel Alder Lake processors. So far, only engineering samples have been distributed and new Intel platforms are being tested.
