The battle for Spain to become No. 1 in the upcoming European Summer European Championships is still up in the air.
Chelsea‘s Kepa Arizabalaga Manchester United’s David De Gea are the competitors, and both had opportunities to compete for their claims during the international break.
It was the former who started and kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw against Portugal in Spain’s first hat-trick.
Given that this was Kepa’s first appearance since he was quit by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard after a 2–0 loss at the hands of Liverpool, the clean sheets would increase his confidence in the world of good.
De Gea, who had also suffered from a shaky start to the new season, hit back with his own clean sheet three days later, as La Ruga scored a minor 1-0 victory in the UEFA European Nations League against Switzerland.
However, for the final match, Spain coach Luis Enrique chose the Red Devils No. 1 ahead of Kepa on the trip to Ukraine.
Although this decision would ultimately backfire on the former Barcelona coach.
De Gea was wrong in the only goal of the match as he was suspended from his position in his region which allowed Viktor Tsygankov to score a surprise win for Ukraine.
With De Gea making a mistake, this prompted some Chelsea fans on Twitter to praise Kepa as the undisputed number one in Spain and mock Manchester United supporters in the process.
