On Monday morning, his wife, Kyle, took to Twitter by posting a set of photos of the director and activist in memory of his life.
She wrote: “Jimmy died today. We are heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, touching life and was loved by many. We will miss him deeply.

His struggle with health started as a child when he had two liver transplants in 1993.
Al-Mohsen went on to found the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness which was a non-profit with the goal of educating people about organ and tissue donation.

Director Jill Tedman shared the honor on Monday.
The charity’s CEO, Jill Tedman, also shared the news of his death on Instagram, saying, “It is with great sadness that we are saddened by the loss of James Redford, co-founder, our inspiration and our friend.”

His latest movie – titled Play For Keeps – premiered this month at the Mill Valley Film Festival where it was mostly virtual.
Redford wife Kyle also told The Salt Lake Tribune that he was nearing completion of directing Where The Past Begins, a documentary for PBS’s American Masters that tracks the migration journey of Joy Luck Club author Amy Tan.
