Gerhard Schroeder wanted lifelong residence in the house, which he owned and ex-wife Doris Schroeder Kopf shared half. But nothing will come of it.
The Higher Regional Court of Sale dismissed Gerhard Schroeder’s claim in second instance in proceedings relating to the right to live in and use the home with his ex-wife, Doris Schroeder Kopf. This was confirmed by the lawyer for the 59-year-old politician and author of the book “Bild”. In February 2022, the former chancellor had already failed before the local court in Hanover.
Schroeder wanted to be safe, and so he demanded his lifelong right to live in the house, half of which he and his ex-wife owned. The 78-year-old demanded that his right of residence and usufruct be entered in the Land Registry.
Schröder pays rent to Schröder-Köpf
After separating from Doris Schroeder Kopf in 2016 – the divorce was sealed two years later – Gerhard Schroeder moved into an apartment on the first floor of the old building they shared in the Hanover Zoo district. His office is on the mezzanine floor. His current wife, Soyeon Schroeder Kim, whom he married in Seoul in 2018, now lives with him on the property. He pays his ex-wife monthly rent.
In February, a spokesperson for the local court in Hanover said when asked by T-Online: “The application to initiate the procedure at the applicant’s expense was denied.” Schroeder also has to pay for the failed procedure now. Today’s lobbyists and a former chancellor can still go to the Federal Court of Justice.
