Currently The European Commission will prepare opinions on applications from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. The next step will be to grant these countries candidate status.
The process is long and complex, and the final step requires the approval of all 27 member states.
Moldova President Maya Sandu on Thursday signed the country’s formal application to join the European Union. We want to live in peace, democracy and freedom, Sandow said at a press conference in Chisinau after the signing of the document.
