Netflix – Thanks to “The Crown” and “The Queen’s Gambit” they regained the title of leader at the 73rd Emmy Awards. Los Gatos won a total of 44 awards, setting a record set by CBS in 1974 and well ahead of HBO, which – with 19 awards – took second place. But not only veterans observed. Apple TV Plus’ “Ted Lasso”, which debuted just two years ago, won a total of seven awards, including in the important category for lead comedian, clearly confirming Silicon Valley’s dominance in the TV entertainment sector.
Streaming services have shifted to the fore, and Netflix has moved to the front at this rate. Until recently, HBO has been competing in terms of the total number of nominations, and last year’s awards in top categories (dramas and comedies) removed Amazon and Hulu (“Tale of the Handbook” for Hulu and Mrs. Maisel” and “Fleabag” for Amazon) are second to none. It has won the most Emma Awards ever for a single platform, with a score of 44, including 11 for “he Crown” (more than double HBO Max).
Of course, much of Netflix’s Emma comes from last week’s 34 Creative Arts Awards, but Sunday’s harvest was followed by 10 awards including Olivia Colman, Gillian Anderson, Josh O’Connor (“The Crown”) and Ewan McGregor (“Halston”).
However, it was not a clash of giants, because the Apple TV Plus managed to master the headlights. This barely two-year-old platformer, not talked about much in Poland, won ten awards, including seven in the all-important “comedy series” category for “Ted Lasso”. This comforting story about an American football coach who came to the UK to work with footballers turned out to be an Apple hack and strong evidence that – despite the very limited number of original productions – this behemoth is just too serious to ignore. Flowing wars. “Ted Lasso” has won awards in three acting categories (Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham for supporting roles) and Jason Sudeikis (Best Actor).
it’s this # amys moment for us.
