Over the past fifteen years, the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth has increased dramatically. The research was compiled by scientists from NASA and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Earth absorbs more and more energy

The Earth absorbs more solar energy than it did 15 years ago. At the same time, less energy is released, which leads to an energy imbalance. This is the phenomenon that experts deal with.

Data from 2005 and 2020 were analyzed and compared. The difference is surprisingly large, said Norman Loeb, and the increase in power can be compared to anyone using 20 electric kettles simultaneously or detonating four atomic bombs every second.

It’s likely a combination of human influence and internal difference. (…]This leads to a fairly large shift in the energy balance on Earth, says Loeb.

According to scientists, the cause of this phenomenon is the acceleration of global warming. Human activity and the amount of pollutants they emit are also of great importance. Even worse, the energy imbalance is causing more changes in the climate, such as higher temperatures.
