The new week started in the north still wintry cold and partly damp. A few more incidents were reported in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Lower Saxony on Monday morning. It just gets milder slowly.
Towards the end of the week, according to forecasts by the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures in southern Lower Saxony will rise to about ten degrees Celsius. However, in large parts of northern Germany, it will still be noticeably colder in the coming days.
Rain, snow or snow showers are likely on Tuesday in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and parts of Lower Saxony. However, it is likely that there will be only minus degrees at night until Tuesday – in some areas, for example in Schleswig-Holstein in the area around Bad Siegburg or in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the Ocker-Randau district.

Many slippery accidents in Lower Saxony
After a frosty weekend – up to ten centimeters of snow fell in the northeast – snow fell across the country on Monday night, at least in the southern half of Lower Saxony. When the snow turned into rain, there was a risk of icing from time to time. Several incidents occurred in the Göttingen region between Sunday evening and Monday morning. But according to police information, there was property damage.

According to the police, a number of slippery accidents also occurred in East Mecklenburg-West on Monday morning during rush hour. A walker was injured when he was hit by a car in Stargard Castle. At the end of the week, most of the weather-related incidents in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Lower Saxony ended slightly.
Police called on all drivers to switch from summer to winter tires now at the latest, and to use caution in traffic on slippery roads.
