On Sunday, the Taliban movement published a video of one of its leaders, Amir Shan Mottaki, assessing the movement The situation around Kabul airport. He states, among other things, that “all of Afghanistan is safe, but chaos reigns at the airport run by the Americans.”

“The United States should not humiliate and be ashamed of itself, nor should it pretend to our nation that we are enemies,” Mottaki said.

The Associated Press reports that the Taliban have beaten and shot those trying to board the evacuation planes.

NATO said at least 20 people died in and around the airport last week.

In the coming days, Taliban leaders are expected to meet with former governors and officials from more than 20 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces. The topic of the talks is to ensure their safety and the issue of cooperation.

“We don’t force any former government official to join us or prove his loyalty to us,” a Taliban representative told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. “They have the right to leave the country if they want to.”

Speaking about the situation surrounding the ongoing evacuation, he said, “Dealing with the chaos outside Kabul is a complex task.”
