Nicole Yffers, the boy’s mother, reported that Ricky was playing in the water with his younger siblings. Suddenly several children fell into the river. The 10-year-old’s father rushed to rescue the two of them.
The man was joined by his son. The boy followed his 5-year-old sister. Ricky pulled her ashore and saved her. After a while he immersed himself in the water and did not get out of it.
The boy’s father said that he always wanted to help everyone. He added that Ricky was sympathetic, dedicated, and intelligent.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the rescue operation was extensive. Unfortunately, the boy could not be saved. Authorities said divers found the body of a 10-year-old boy.
