On November 18, YouTube updated the Terms of service. The update is short, but it does have one important change that might fly under a lot of radars because we face it, who’s reading the terms of service. Under the second point, the terminology states: “Ads can now appear on videos from non-YouTube Partner Program (YPP) channels, and we will gradually begin placing ads on brand-safe videos.”
This means that unlike before, when ads only display videos that are monetized by their creators, YouTube will now show ads before a video regardless of whether or not the creator is a YouTube partner. Not only does this push more potentially annoying ads your way, it also strips YouTubers of the decision to display an ad in the first place or not – often creators who make money through Patreon rather than rely on bad YouTube ad earnings Reputation It is a point to disable ads for its viewers Thanks for their support.
The update reads “This is part of our ongoing investment in new solutions, such as Home Feed Ads, that help advertisers to responsibly leverage the full scale of YouTube to connect with their audiences and grow their business.” As before, creators can apply to become partners if they meet with the YouTube Partner Program Eligibility Criteria, Such as 4000 cumulative public view hours over 12 months and 1000+ subscribers.
Changes are currently rolling out to US channels, while terms of service will apply in all other regions from mid-2021.
