Anyone who has purchased one of the above packages is urged not to consume it.

Point of sale notifications have been issued and will be displayed in Sainsbury’s stores.

The notices state: “It has been brought to our attention that a small amount of cooked mussels by Sainsbury’s 300 grams (frozen), with the best date before 09/08/2021, may be contaminated with salmonella.

“Any other date codes are not affected. We ask customers not to consume this product and return it to the nearest Sainsbury store when it is safe, where they will get a full refund.

“We would like to apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.”

The Food Standards Agency website reads: “Aldi is expanding its recall of Roosters Southern Fried Poppin ‘Chicken and Roosters Poppin’ Chicken Breaded Poppin ‘to include all batches and the best dates before that, because products may contain salmonella.

Point of sale notifications have also been issued to stores giving shoppers more information.

Customers who have purchased items again are requested not to take them.

Alternatively, shoppers can return products to the nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
