Figures released by NHS England today, Tuesday, 13 October, show that 227 people have died after being diagnosed with the virus, an increase of six since details were published yesterday.

Nationwide, it said another 87 people who tested positive for the virus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals in England to 30,593.

She said that these people are between the ages of 30 and 96, and all but six, and between the ages of 72 and 86, were suffering from basic health conditions, with the date of death ranging from Tuesday, October 6 to yesterday, with the majority registering on Saturday 10 October .

A total of 20 have been reported across Northeast and Yorkshire.

The update comes as public health statistics in England showed 53 more cases in Northumberland since yesterday’s update, with a total of 3,786 cases now reported across the province.

Across the UK, the number increased by 17,234, bringing the total to 634,920.

The regional total is now 40,086.

The following is a breakdown of the cases by local authority area on Tuesday, October 13th:

Sunderland: 106 new cases (total number of cases: 4,884)

Northumberland: 53 new cases (total number of cases: 3786)

South Tyneside: 50 new cases (total number of cases: 2,689)

Hartlepool: 40 new cases (Total number of cases: 1,442)
