(Central News Agency, Taipei, 19) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin today claimed against US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan that she was an “American leader who went to Taiwan to support Taiwan independence and separatist activities” and advised the US side. Not to underestimate China’s defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry held a press conference on the afternoon of the 19th. The newspaper reported that when asked by the media, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Asia and the Pacific, Daniel Krettenbrink, said on the 17th that China’s words and actions have seriously destabilized the country. Wang Wenbin made the above remarks when replying.
Wang Wenbin claimed that the facts of “Nancy Pelosi’s visit to China’s Taiwan region” are clear and right and wrong is clear at a glance, “It is the US side that violated its one-China commitment and harmed China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is not China’s breach of its obligations. It undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United States.” It was the American leader who went to Taiwan to support the “Taiwan independence” separatist activities, not the Chinese side who went to the United States to support Alaska independence.”
He claimed that China’s resolute response to the US “provocation” was “reasonable, legitimate and justified, widely understood and supported by the international community.” If the United States wants to solve the problem, there is only one way out, which is to return to the “Three Sino-US Joint Communiques” and the “One China Principle”, rather than shirk its responsibilities and respond, let alone respond. He acted recklessly and tried to create an even bigger crisis.
Wang Wenbin also said that China’s determination to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity is resolute, and “urges the United States not to misjudge.”
On a conference call at 17:00 ET, Kangda said China has used Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan as a pretext to increase pressure on Taiwan in a bid to change the status quo and jeopardize peace and stability in the entire Taiwan Strait and the wider region. Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is in line with the United States’ one-China policy and is not without precedent.
He noted that these measures by China come within the framework of increasing pressure on Taiwan, which is expected to continue in the next few weeks and months. The aim of China’s move is very clear, it is to intimidate and coerce Taiwan and weaken the resilience of Taiwan.
Kunda noted that US policy toward Taiwan has always been consistent, and that Washington does not support formal Taiwan independence. The US policy has not changed, but China has changed, coercion is increasing day by day, words and deeds seriously undermine stability, which may lead to miscalculation, and threaten peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
He noted that in the face of Beijing’s continued undermining of peace and stability, the United States will continue to take a calm and resolute approach to maintaining peace and stability, and support Taiwan in accordance with the United States’ long-term policy.
