Liverpool player Sadio Mane has tested positive for the Corona virus and is currently in self-isolation.
Mane, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal, has shown slight symptoms of the virus but feels generally healthy, according to Liverpool.
Liverpool teammate Thiago Alcantara tested positive for Corona virus this week.
“Sadio Mane has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently undergoing self-isolation according to the necessary instructions,” the club said in a statement.
“ The striker, who started and scored in Monday’s 3-1 win over Arsenal, has shown slight symptoms of the virus but feels generally healthy.
“However, as with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool Football Club is – and will continue to – follow all protocols related to Covid-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required length of time.”
Thiago missed the Arsenal match after his positive test, and he and Mane will be absent from Sunday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa – live broadcast Sky Sports.
Coach Jürgen Klopp hopes both players will be available when the Reds return to action after the international break in the Merseyside derby on October 17 in Everton.
Mane, 28, has been in great shape this season, scoring two goals for Liverpool in Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea before also scoring against Arsenal.
His enforced isolation will also affect his international commitments after Mane was selected in the Senegal squad for their upcoming friendly matches against Morocco and Mauritania.
