On Thursday, May 26 at 23:00, before the premiere of the first part of “Stranger Things 4”, a spectacular projection inspired by the Netflix series was projected on the walls of the Wawel Royal Castle, which metaphorically presented the reopening of the portal to the other side.

Ever since a girl named Eleven in Hawkins, Indiana, opened a gate between Hawkins and the Other Side (a terrifying alternate dimension found under the city’s surface) in 1983, similar gates have begun to open in other unexpected places. Yesterday they can also be seen in our world. To mark the premiere of Stranger Things 4, portals have appeared in famous places in as many as 14 countries – including on the Wawel Walls in Krakow.

And Krakow residents gathered on Vistula Boulevards admired the projection, but not only. Stranger Things fans from all over Poland also gathered near the Wawel, on the Dębnicki and Grunwaldzki bridges.

Happened in several countries

The event is part of a global project and opened by dropping into the Empire State Building in New York. Then the other side gates opened, among other things. In Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

The Wawel was not chosen by chance – it is one of the most important and famous buildings in Poland. The defensive walls of the castle can be considered a symbolic boundary between the world of fairy tales and legends, incl. About the Wawel dragon and the outside world, which brings natural associations with the portal of the television series The Other Side, a transition from the real world to another dimension.
