NASA and President Biden shown the first image from the James Webb Space Telescope (update)

NASA and US President Joe Biden together presented the first historic image from the James Webb Space Telescope at the White House. “This is the deepest and most detailed picture of the universe captured so far (…) It shows the light of galaxies, which took several billion years to reach us” – confirmed NASA.

Joe Biden declared this a “historic day.” “This is a new chapter in the search for our world,” said Vice President Kamala Harris, who attended Monday’s event.

The image shows a group of stars and galaxies. At least one beam of ancient faint light rays appearing on the image’s “background” – made up of images of different wavelengths – dates back more than 13 billion years, NASA chief Bill Nelson said. “It’s a small part of the universe,” Nelson added.

The following images from NASA’s James Webb Telescope will be shown on Tuesday afternoon, Poland time. “Images from the Webb Telescope remind the world of the great things that America can do,” President Biden said.

The James Webb Telescope is the most powerful space telescope ever built. Its construction cost about 10 billion dollars. It was launched on December 25, 2021. It has a mirror with a diameter of 6.5 meters and it detects infrared radiation. It was recognized by the media as the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, which has been in operation for more than 30 years.
