Which British city is home to the nicest people? According to a national survey of 2,000 adults, it is a city complex located in the south of England, on the River Thames, famous all over the world (at least!) for one thing …
How was the ‘most beautiful’ city in the UK chosen? Well, study participants were asked to rate their hometown in terms of kindness toward others, the achievement of so-called good deeds and a widely understood local ethos. This is how it was possible to choose the city where the people are more – to put it mildly – nice.
A spokesperson for Babybel, the company that organized the survey, commented: “It was interesting to see which city was officially crowned as the friendliest city.” As well as how the nation evaluates its birthplace in terms of qualities such as friendliness and benevolence. It is great to know that this stuff is still abundant in local communities across the UK.
What makes a city considered “nice”?
The survey also found that nearly half (44 percent) of adults would not want to live anywhere other than their hometown. 32% chose to live where they live due to the kindness of its local residents. Three out of ten people often visit other cities and find that they do not look as “kind and protective” as their own. In the study, Oxford was considered the friendliest city, i.e. a city too small on the British scale, to be compared to agglomerations such as London, Manchester or Birmingham.
Oxford is the capital of Oxfordshire. The city is primarily known as the home of the University of Oxford, the oldest English-speaking university in the world. Since the 19th century, the city has been called the “City of Dreams Towers”.

The city’s economy is diversified. In addition to the university’s publishing, science and high technology industries, there is also the MINI automobile plant, formerly owned by Morris Motor Company (now part of the German BMW concern). Let us also add that tourism is an important part of the city’s economy. Its population exceeds 150,000 people.
