The end of construction is approaching. This is what the Marine Science Center looks like from the inside [foto]

The last time residents and journalists were able to visit the Marine Science Center was in September. Since then, there have been some changes at the construction site. Among other things, the glass facade covering a total area of ​​600 square meters is already equipped. About 80 percent of the expanded metal has already been installed. It is worth noting that the facade will be accentuated, which will change the external appearance of the building even more.

– The grid was already in the design of the architect Piotr Płatkowicki – recalls Jarosław Dobrzyński. – The fact that it was finally installed is a result of the construction process. The architect’s vision is that the body should resemble a ship carrying containers. The object will look different depending on the position of the observer.

Sail upwind and learn how to operate a rescue knot

The interiors of the Marine Science Center will be filled with more than 200 exhibits from the permanent exhibition designed by the Warsaw firm Trias Avi. Currently, 40 exhibits are ready. Let us remember that among them there will be, among other things, a storm simulator or a mast extending from the ground floor to the basement of the second floor. Visitors will see how to sail against the wind and will have the opportunity to try their hand at making a rescue knot.

The exhibition will be held on three floors of the building. In total, it will take more than 3000. square meters of space and will be divided into 5 thematic zones. On the ground floor, there will be “Full Speed ​​Ahead!” areas. (hull of the ship, types of ships) and “Schlap!” (children’s water playground). The first floor will occupy “Sea Life” (sea-related competitions). The area will continue on the second floor next to “Rescue, SOS!” (Sea as an Element) and “Which Road to Africa?” (Modes of movement).

Let us remind you that the permanent exhibition will have a special place displaying the achievements of Alexander Duba, who was the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean alone in history. The exhibition will be entitled Rowing across the Atlantic.

“We will be a science center, not a museum.”

Interestingly enough, acoustic panels have been installed on the walls of the Marine Science Center. Their job will be to mute outside noise, so that visitors will feel completely comfortable hearing what the exhibition has to say to them. The building in Łasztownia will also house three research laboratories – manual, biochemical, and physical – nanotechnology.

The labs will host classes with young people, led by specialists and scientists. The Marine Science Center, as its name suggests, serves science. We cooperate with all Szczecin universities. Together with the Maritime University, West Pomeranian University of Technology and Szczecin University, we run Professor Jerzy Stalmach’s Children’s University.

The Planetarium at the Marine Science Center will hold 44 seats and special armchairs for people with disabilities. The interior of the reinforced concrete sphere will be filled with a screen that displays an image with a resolution of 6.6K. Regardless of astrological predictions, popular science films will be shown on the screen.

Let us recall that the tender for the construction of the Planetarium for the Marine Science Center was won by the consortium AB Micro from Warsaw and the French company RSA Cosmos. Let’s add that under the “high” body there will be additional seats, and the space can be used as an installation for paintings and presentations.

When will residents be able to experience sea adventures?

The Marine Science Center doors will open next fall. It will also be the first public facility and cultural institution in the region with LEED Gold certification.
