Local Governor! You can still create a Cities Action Plan with us

The period of appointment to the “Plan of Action for Cities” program has been extended. Until November 22, local governments can submit their project. It must implement at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals. The program aims to transform our small homelands and mobilize cities to take bold action – explains Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, Deputy Minister of Finance and Regional Policy.

By 2050, up to 70 percent of the world’s population will live in cities. Its responsible and sustainable development is a major challenge for local governments. We want to help them and create a document that will be a benchmark for all cities – the “Action Plan for Cities”. At the same time, it will be a legacy of the World City Forum organized in June next year

What is the action plan for cities

Action Agenda for Cities is a companion initiative to the eleventh session of the World Urban Forum (WUF11) – the largest and most important city-related event. It is also an implementation tool stipulated in the currently emerging New National Urban Policy.

The idea of ​​the program is to assist cities in responsible and sustainable development. Provides individual advisory support to clusters wishing to implement sustainable development projects. General guidelines for residents will also be developed on how to actively participate in the development of the city, for example participating in its management or influencing its area.

The “Action Plan for Cities” jointly developed with cities will be the Polish response to the challenges related to the implementation of the sustainable development goals identified by the 2030 Agenda. It will be announced and signed in June 2022, during the eleventh session of the National Assembly. International City Forum in Katowice.

Who can apply

The invitation to participate in the program is sent to all cities in Poland, regardless of their size – urban or urban-rural communities.

The program will be implemented in five phases:

  • Selection of participating cities in the program,
  • Individual advisory support in the preparation and implementation of projects in each city,
  • development of a common document – the “Action Plan for Cities” – including a description of the challenges and characteristics of each city’s projects,
  • preparation for the implementation and implementation of work projects in the PDM,
  • Develop a toolkit, which is instructions for local communities
    and residents on how it affects urban space and city management processes.
