Larry Nassar, 58, is serving a life sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting more than 250 gymnasts, most of them minors, in 2017 and 2018.

He committed crimes for 20 years, working for the American Gymnastics Federation, at Michigan State University, and at the Lansing Gymnastics Club.

The Justice Department’s inspection report proved so cruel to the FBI’s local Indianapolis office that the gymnastics federation chief filed charges against Nassar in July 2015.

Early in September, the investigation was closed, and only eight months later it was resumed as a result of another report.

“We have failed and we deserve an explanation,” Simone Biles, 24, told a Senate committee tasked with investigating wrongdoing in the investigation.

She explained the reasons for her accusation against the FBI: “I don’t want another young gymnast, Olympic athlete, or anyone else to experience the horror that I and hundreds of others experienced and are still experiencing today after Larry Nassar’s abuse.”

McKayla Maroney focused her anger on the local FBI, which collected her testimony containing highly detailed descriptions of the assault.

A 25-year-old former gymnast said he was sexually harassed at age 13.

Maroney, by forging the testimony, asserted that “FBI agents committed a crime,” and deplored the lack of penalties from the Department of Justice, which said it “refused to prosecute these officers.”

Long wait for a response

In turn, Aly Raisman revealed that she had been sexually abused since 2010 and Nassar denounced the Gymnastics Federation in 2015.

“Despite my many pleas, the FBI didn’t contact me until 14 months later,” she added.

The Senate committee is also scheduled to hear from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Department of Justice Chief Inspector Michael Horowitz.
