Nominees for the 22nd Laureus World Sports Awards include the world’s best athletes and teams.

Iga Świątek and Robert Lewandowski received nominations from people from the world of sports.

World-class athletes, including former winners Rafael Nadal, Lewis Hamilton, US Open champion Naomi Osaka and basketball superstar LeBron James, are competing for the prestigious little Lorius statue.

The Sports Oscars will be announced in May.

These awards are intended not only to celebrate the highest achievements in sport, but also to honor those whose activities have surpassed the venue of the competition.

“After a challenging year, we are more determined than ever that the Laureus Prize will honor men and women who have made such an effort to return to sport, in many cases in a completely different environment and without an audience,” he said. Laureus World Sports Awards 2021 – Nominated Athletes:

Previous winners Lewis Hamilton and Raphael Nadal were re-nominated for the Laureus Prize for Best Athlete in the World. In 2020 Hamilton won the seventh Formula 1 World Championship and Nadal won his 20th Grand Slam title, setting the record with Roger Federer.

Candidates are also:

NBA star LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers,

Footballer Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, who won the FIFA Best Player,

Olympic – Joshua Chiptege from Uganda, who broke world records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Swedish Olympian Armand Duplantis, who set new records in outdoor and indoor pole vaulting.

Laureus World Sports Awards 2021 – Female athletes:

Naomi Osaka, winner of the 2019 Laureus Breakthrough Award, is nominated for the award after her second US Open victory in September.

Dutch Anna van der Bregen, who won the road race and time trial at the World Cycling Championship,

Italian Federica Brignoni – Ski World Cup Winner,

Brigid Kosje from Kenya – London Marathon Winner,

Wendy Renard, captain of Lyon, who won the Women’s Champions League for the fifth year in a row,

Breanna Stewart, who led the Seattle Storm to the WNBA Championship.
